I’ve made it clear in the past I am NOT a cat owner. Yes they can be cute and beautiful, but they can also be the ultimate assholes LOL. Dogs though, are like actual children. My doggo is spoiled more then a lot of human children in fact. LOL. So it is coming as a shock to my friends and family that I will be having this young guy come live with us starting the 26th.
His name is Joey, he is 18 months old and he is the beloved companion of a friend of mine. She though, will be leaving the country when our new term starts in January to study abroad and none of her family were willing to take him. She already had rescued him when he was just under a year old. The monsters before her, had him neutered which is good, but they also had his front claws removed. That is one of the most inhumane things you can do to a cat. She was at wits end what was to happen to him. He does not deserve to be sent back to a shelter so I agreed to let him join our family.
He is very lovable and he has met the King Doggo, Charlie, on numerous occasions when we’ve visited them and they have gotten along wonderfully. So for the first time ever, I will become a companion to something totally out of my comfort zone. A carnivore that looks at everything I study as prey.
So I have been researching all day the best food for him; that is also humane. I will have to wean him off the food she currently feeds him as it is not a humane brand. I won’t point fingers. So I have spent the day doing research. It appears Orijen will be the brand for him. Orijen is part of the Champion Pet Foods family and are produced and sourced both in Canada and in their state-of-the-art Dogstar kitchens in Auburn, Kentucky. Human-grade meats include wild-caught fish, free-run chicken, and turkey, and free-range bison, and boar from producers Champion knows and trusts. The first 11 items in the food I chose are meat, and meat products, high in protein, low in fat, virtually non-existent fiber, good minerals and vitamins. It’s an exceptionally good food for your cat’s health. Plus, the small mom and pop store less then a block away from me carries it in stock.
I told her to keep all her pet stuff. If she returns and wants a new pet, because I probably won’t want to let him go by the end of next summer when she returns LOL, she’ll have everything she needs. So I have also now purchased new litter boxes, a conventional covered box, which will stay hidden for the most part unless he doesn’t like his new Litter Robot. LOL, beds, a cat tree (which will be in the den, I just can’t put it in any of the main areas LOL), and more toys then he’ll know what to do with. LOL
I’m starting him fresh, hopefully he will appreciate it. LOL On the plus side he already lives in a 10th floor home that has a balcony so I won’t have to worry about him with any of mine. LOL Especially since I leave them open pretty much year round. He’ll have more room here, but no carpets so it will make cat zoomies a little harder LOL. I may have to get a few throw rugs (More research on rugs that are vegan now woohoo! No wool! I love research!) for him to bank off of with rug pads to save my maple floors. LOL
Ok, maybe I am a bit excited about having a new member join our little family here. What’s next, a bird? I may need a canary to offset his Sylvester look. LOL
I’m hoping he finds this a wonderful home.
